The administration of the Hellenic Open University is trying to calm the thoughts, concerns, and anxieties of an as-yet undetermined number of ‘victims’ whose personal data has been leaked,” says Nikos Limpantsis, legal representative of the students who are currently exploring their legal options. As he notes, “those affected are considering taking legal action in order to protect themselves from potential future malicious acts against them and to claim compensation for moral damages.” He also points out that “the leaked personal data may concern not only enrolled students (undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD candidates), but also alumni, university staff, and HOU professors.
